PlayStation Acquires High-End Audio Brand Audeze

Sony Interactive Entertainment, the division responsible for PlayStation, has announced its intention to expand its presence in the audio industry. In pursuit of this goal, the company has entered into an agreement to acquire Audeze, a renowned manufacturer of high-quality headphones. The acquisition aims to enhance the audio experience of PlayStation games and further Sony’s commitment to innovation in this field. The specific details of the deal have not been revealed.

Audeze will continue to operate independently and develop products for multiple platforms while “benefiting from being part of the PlayStation ecosystem,” SIE said. “Audeze is a leading headset brand, and this acquisition underscores Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and delivering the best audio experience for PlayStation gamers,” Hideaki Nishino, vice president of platform experience at SIE, said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring Audeze’s expertise to the PlayStation ecosystem, and we’ve made progress with Tempest 3D AudioTech and Pulse 3D wireless headphones for PlayStation 5.”

Sony notes that Audeze’s headphones use planar magnetic drivers to “provide a superior audio experience” for consumers as well as audio professionals such as sound designers. This week, Sony revealed more details about new headsets and headsets for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Portal handheld. Both the Pulse Explore headphones and the Pulse Elite headphones have custom planar magnetic drivers.

SIE also said that both upcoming audio devices will use a new lossless low-latency technology called PlayStation Link, designed primarily for the PS5 and PlayStation Portal. The technology also works on PC and Mac computers with the help of a USB dongle. The Pulse Explore and Pulse Elite will arrive later this year for $200 and $150, respectively.
